Abstract

Praises Janaway’s study as a significant contribution to understanding the relationship between Nietzsche’s style and his ideas. Believes Emden’s two books are among the best available for gaining a comprehensive view of Nietzsche’s ideology and the critical tradition (including the German tradition) that has emerged from a study of his works. Also finds the essays in Leiter and Sinhababu’s collection helpful in elucidating Nietzsche’s ideas about morality. Considers Reginster’s book a good introduction to the philosopher’s thought, but is less impressed with Young’s book, whose principal arguments are easily disputable.
