Abstract

Explicates the influence of Hazlitt and Francis Jeffrey, editor of the Edinburgh Review, on the French writer Stendhal (Henri-Marie Beyle). Explains how the English writers mediated for Stendhal the aesthetics of Wordsworth’s poetry and shaped his understanding of Romanticism.
