Annotating Thoreau
Abstract
Traces the history of editions of Walden. Provides a catalog of faults with the Cramer edition, calling it incomplete, uneven in textual interpretation, generally poor in handling classical allusions. Finds uninformed commentary and misinformation prevalent. Judges the title presumptuous in that this edition is not fully annotated. Complains the hype surrounding this edition is misplaced and unjustified.
