Abstract

Examines strategies for writing biography and late nineteenth-century culture without substantial resort to individual psychology. Attempts to explore the sociology of Pater’s texts, principally through an analysis of his publication of serial writing in periodicals of the 1880s such as the Fortnightly Review and Macmillan’s Magazine.
