Abstract

Attempts to explain how Arnold felt culture should work to improve a nation. Compares Arnold’s work to that of the twentieth-century Canadian politician Andre Laurendeau. Concludes Arnold felt culture was a value that a nation should preserve, and that education was essential in a democratic state to assure that the best qualities of a people would be understood.
