Finds Anderson’s thesis intriguing but believes she is unable to articulate subtle differences in the use of printed images in publications; has greater praise for Hughes and Lund’s work, which explains how serial publications were read and how literature read serially was understood, but believes they posit too uniform a portrait of the Victorian reader. Concludes with a listing of other scholarly texts that cover the same subject.
