Abstract

Offers a representative study of the marginalia in a number of volumes in the Gladstone library at St. Deniol’s. Argues that these notes are valuable for understanding what may have been uppermost in Gladstone’s mind when he read specific volumes, and hence may help flesh out the portrait of a particularly complex figure.
