Isolation and the Sense of Assumed Superiority in Sir James Frazer’s The Golden Bough

Abstract

Attempts to understand Frazer’s method of study by examining his rhetoric and evaluating his attitude toward other societies. Finds he is a man of his time in adopting a position of superiority in describing other cultures, measuring them against European and particularly British society, which he considers the standard for progress in human enlightenment.
