Review of L.J. Rather, Reading Wagner: A Study in the History of Ideas
Abstract
Believes Rather’s book is a useful corrective to the work of scholars who have been unduly influenced by Nietzsche in their reading of Wagner. Admires Rather’s attempt to soften the radical portrait of Wagner that has become accepted by critics, but disagrees with his interpretation of several of Wagner’s actions and motives.
