Emerson and Nietzsche; Fate and Existence
Abstract
Analyzes the influence Emerson’s writings had in shaping Nietzsche’s thoughts, especially during the latter’s formative years as a philosopher. Cites parallel passages to illustrate similarities, but goes beyond simple comparisons to elucidate ways Emerson’s ideas about fate and existence helped Nietzsche develop his own solutions to the problem of fate as a determinant for human existence.
