The Body by the Wall: Arnold as Educator
Abstract
Discusses Arnold’s career as a Schools Inspector and reviews the many reports and other official documents he wrote in that capacity. Although Arnold did not see these works as being equal to his literary publications, they contain the seeds of works such as Culture and Anarchy, Literature and Dogma, and other writings. Additionally, they document that, throughout his life, Arnold saw himself in the role of a teacher.
