Photography in the 1850s

Abstract

Argues that Seiberling’s focus on the practitioners of early photography and on the teleology of the art as it was practiced by its first devotees makes this an important study. Believes the book would be more useful if she had given more attention to the ways photography affected the imagination of the Victorians.
