Abstract

Notes that this collection of essays actually deals with figures from the eighteenth to the twentieth century as well as those from the Victorian era, but sees a unifying theme in Himmelfarb’s discussions being the central role the Victorians played in shaping ideas from the past that influenced future generations of intellectuals and social reformers. Briefly summarizes the essays in the volume.
