The Dark Side of Victorian Theories of Progress
Abstract
Praises Von Arx for his ability to extract from works of four Victorian historians a theory of history that dispels earlier notions about the Victorians’ chief concerns regarding the progress of social systems. Laments Von Arx’s decision to restrict his study to the published writings of these men rather than examining their correspondence and personal relations as well.
