Abstract

Deftly sketches Mulvey’s argument that the trans-Atlantic experience was markedly different, and yet complementary, for Americans and Englishmen traveling to each others’ countries. Finds Mulvey adept at discerning parallels and contrasts among the many travel narratives of writers as diverse as the American Arthur Coxe and English travelers Frances Trollope, Thomas Hamilton, and William Russell.
