Excess and Restraint in Dickens

Abstract

Believes Kucich contributes much to readers’ understanding of the energy in Dickens’ characters and the role of excess in his language, but thinks Kucich presses too hard his interpretation of some figures and fails to acknowledge the influence of literary tradition on Dickens.
