Abstract

Extensive commentary on Geoffrey Hartman’s Criticism in the Wilderness (1980) and William E. Buckler’s The Victorian Imagination (1980). Finds merit in both, but believes Hartman’s work is particularly valuable for forcing readers to examine the unspoken assumptions of critics. Briefly abstracts twenty-five articles and notes on Arnold and his work.
