Abstract
Briefly discusses commentary on Arnold in books that do not concentrate on his works, including R.B. Henkle’s Comedy and Culture, George Landow’s Victorian Types, Victorian Shadows, Richard Jenkyns’ The Victorians and Ancient Greece, and Margaret Drabble’s For Queen and Country. Offers similar discussion of major works in which Arnold is featured, including the second edition of Poems, edited by Miriam Allott; Carl Dawson and John Pfordresher’s edition of nineteenth-century critical receptions of Arnold’s prose; Lesley Johnson’s book on cultural critics; Imelda Palmer’s study of Arnold’s ideas about culture and education; and James Simpson’s study of Arnold and Goethe. Catalogs and provides brief summaries of thirty-three articles, notes, and dissertations.
