Questions Romano’s methodology and his penchant for subordinating critical readings of the novels to discussions about competing theories of reality, but concludes that Romano offers new insight into Dickens’ fiction by providing fresh judgments about the value of some of the novelist’s more ostensibly outlandish characters.
